Our board design and board layout process is based around the most current Orcad product line. Our designer uses Orcad Capture for the schematic design / schematic input of the product. Orcad Capture is also used to create what is called a “net list” which gets imported to Orcad Layout to continue the process.
Orcad Layout is used for the layout and
design of the board. This software has
built in error checking capabilities that
dramatically aids in reduction of layout
errors. Orcad Layout is also used to generate
Gerber files. Gerber files are, in essence,
the “done” product. These Gerber files are sent to an error-checking web page as an additional way to check our work for errors. After we are satisfied with the accuracy of the Gerber files, they are then sent to the PCB house and solder stencil house for manufacturer of bare boards and the screen printer stencil.
In the last step of the board design & layout phase, we utilize a program by Aegis called CircuitCAM. CircuitCAM is used to digitize the Gerber files from the previous step to create the files necessary to tell the pick and place machine what to do. This is a “better” way of optimizing the surface mount machine which increases its efficiency, and in turn it’s overall through-put.
