As our history and industry pages indicate, we have engineered a large variety of products using many different technologies. At Thomas Instrumentation, you will find engineers that are experienced in designing systems with analog, digital, and RF circuitry. Thomas Instrumentation typically assists its customers in one of the following three design types:

New Product Design

Thomas Instrumentation | New Product DesignThomas Instrumentation steps into the design process early in the customer’s project concept phase. Our engineers work hand-in-hand with the customer to review requirements, make suggestions, and develop the best design concept for the project. Some of our past suggestions have included items such as firmware upgradeability, future expansion capabilities (extra inputs/outputs, etc.), parts availability and cost, and more effective methods to complete functions. Once the design requirements are finalized, our engineers develop the schematics necessary for turning the design into hardware. Typically we are also hired to manufacture production hardware and develop software for any of these designs.

Reverse Engineering

Thomas Instrumentation | Reverse EngineeringAt times, Thomas Instrumentation has been asked by customers to take a working product and develop schematics for it. This situation often arises when one company goes out of business and another company purchases its products without receiving the proper paperwork to continue support of the designs. In these cases, our engineers work to develop the documentation necessary to create more of the product and support any existing units. During this time, many customers ask to incorporate product updates.

Updates for Both New and Obsolete Products

Thomas Instrumentation | Updates for Both New and Obsolete ProductsAlmost every customer selling technology products have experienced the dreaded problem of obsolete parts or old technology. Thomas Instrumentation has been around since the first microprocessors were released, so our engineers are well-practiced at upgrading and altering designs. We work with our customers to make any changes they require. Some of the typical reasons for change include: increasing functionality, converting through-hole designs to surface mount designs, changing parts to decrease cost and increase availability, increasing efficiency, reducing heat, reducing overall size, increasing reliability, adding protection circuitry for problematic areas, creating redundant circuitry, and adding test circuitry to aid in troubleshooting.
